🧮 Calculators
FIRE & Salary
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. The idea is simple: if your investments generate enough passive income to cover your living expenses, you no longer need to work for money.
The core calculation uses the Safe Withdrawal Rate (SWR) — the percentage of your portfolio you can withdraw each year without running out of money. Based on decades of stock market history, 4% has proven sustainable over 30+ year retirements. Your FIRE Number is simply your annual expenses divided by your SWR.
Your Freedom Date is calculated by projecting your current savings and monthly contributions forward at 7% annual growth — the long-run average of global stock markets — until you hit your FIRE Number.
Lean FIRE — minimal lifestyle, lower target
Regular FIRE — your chosen lifestyle maintained
Fat FIRE — comfortable with extras and buffer
